PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEKEND

West Brom scored five goals in their previous home game and they followed that up with a four-goal salvo against Bristol City on Saturday. Strikes from Jerome Thomas, Chris Brunt, Simon Cox and a Louis Carey own goal earned the Baggies an impressive 4-1 victory - and in doing so saw them return to the top of the Championship table.

GOAL OF THE WEEKEND

There was very little for Bristol City fans to cheer about at the Hawthorns but at least they saw midfielder Paul Hartley score the goal of the game. The Scotland international marked his 400th career appearance with a spectacular 25-yard free kick, although the result ended the Robins’ seven-match unbeaten run.

SHOCK OF THE WEEKEND

There were no major shocks but Doncaster’s 2-0 victory over in-form QPR did come as a bit of a surprise given Rangers’ displays of late. Billy Sharp put Rovers in front with his fourth goal of the campaign and Dean Shiels made the game safe when he wriggled past two defenders before curling the ball into the net.

QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND

With the game between Barnsley and Cardiff at Oakwell goalless going into injury time, Tykes’ boss Mark Robins was trying to get the message to his players NOT to let Carl Dickinson have a shot at goal when the home side were awarded a free kick.

Dickinson had never scored a league goal before but he ignored his manager’s instructions and his deflected strike earned Barnsley three precious points. “I was desperately trying to get him off it and he ends up sticking it in the back of the net,” said Robins.

STAR OF THE WEEKEND

It’s certainly been a busy and fruitful week for Leicester’s Andy King. The youngster was able to play for Wales at two different levels last week and he celebrated his return to club duty with a 94th-minute winner for the Foxes against Plymouth on Saturday.

He said: “Playing for the full national side and being captain of the Under 21s was a great honour. Then scoring the winner has capped off a good week.”
