Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony has admitted that he made a mistake by appointing Mark Cooper at London Road - but has faith in new boss Jim Gannon's confidence of leading Posh to Coca-Cola Championship safety.
MacAnthony felt he was wrong to turn to a man with no experience of the Football League as he prepares for a fight for survival.
"I felt it was time for a change for the good of the club. I take full responsibility for the recruitment and departure of Mark," MacAnthony said.
"Mistakes get made but it's not how you make them that matters, it's how you fix them and hopefully we can get back to winning football matches."
Saturday's 2-0 defeat at cash-strapped Crystal Palace left Peterborough rooted to the foot of the Championship with just 18 points from 28 games and Gannon himself is confident he can turn things round, pointing to his time at Stockport as evidence that all is not lost.
Gannon said: "It is a fantastic opportunity and I am excited. At Stockport, when I went there they were seven points adrift and we stayed up, so it can be done.
"Statistically, it looks a difficult task, but the main aim is to get three points on Saturday (against QPR), try and make a difference and bring back some positive football."
