Peterborough director of football Barry Fry is confident of signing a defender before the next Championship fixture.

Fry is using the international break to persuade the unnamed defender to move to London Road on loan in time to face Bristol City on October 17.

"There is definitely a chance we could have a defender in the squad before our next match," Fry told the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

"It's a player the manager made his major target in the summer, but for one reason or another we weren't able to complete a deal.

"We have an agreement in place with the player, but the club are keen on tying the lad to a new contract before they allow him to go on loan."
