Manager Darren Ferguson has urged his Preston side to "impose" themselves on Newcastle this weekend as they attempt to climb the table.

North End, who currently lie 14th in the Championship, slumped to a 5-3 defeat at Derby in midweek and with the competitive nature of the league Ferguson knows his side must start picking up more points quickly if they are to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.

"The league being the way it is you don't want to get sucked into a battle and if you look up the way you're about a point off 10th and if you look down the way you're only six points off the bottom (three), so that's one thing you don't want to get sucked into," Ferguson told the club's official website.

"But we've got to get the results and quickly, there's no doubt about that.

"We've got to get as many wins as we can as quickly as we can, but we know what Saturday is going to bring.

"It's going to bring a very difficult game but we've got to go up there and try and impose ourselves on them."
