Reading's new skipper Jobi McAnuff said his team-mates will make his job easy after being handed the captain's armband by manager Brian McDermott this week.

McDermott has turned to McAnuff, 29, following the departure to Leicester of defender Matt Mills, who led the Royals to the play-off final in May.

McAnuff said: "We all get on well, this is a great bunch, you couldn't have a better group to be captain of really."

He added: "I've been around a bit, played with good players in good teams and I know the players here will make my job easier. There are lots of leaders, it won't change me or them, it's something to build on.

"One thing the gaffer said was that he felt the timing was right, for myself and the club.

"I'm very happy here, I'd like to think I've established myself to get respect from the boys, the staff and hopefully the fans."
