Ipswich defender Matt Richards is hoping to secure a new contract at Portman Road after returning from the wilderness under Roy Keane.

Richards looked certain to leave the club this summer but started in the 3-0 win at Cardiff on Saturday for his first appearance in over two years.

The 24-year-old told the club's official website: "The new manager coming in has given me a chance and I'm thankful for that. The door may be a little bit more open for me now, and I definitely want to stay if possible."

He added: "I did okay against Cardiff and hopefully I will get another chance to show the manager what I can do on Sunday.

"There are a lot of us out of contract in the summer and the manager has got a lot of thinking to do."
