Former Birmingham and Preston midfielder Darren Carter is on trial with Brighton.
The 27-year-old, who had a spell on loan at Millwall last season, is a free agent after leaving Deepdale at the end of last season.
"We always bring in two or three to have a look at when we get a chance," Albion boss Gus Poyet told The Argus.
"He is a player I haven't seen in a while."
Poyet is weighing up adding to his squad after they lost four of their last five matches.
