Paulo Sousa has been offered the vacant manager's role at Swansea.

The former Portugal international, who left his job as QPR boss in April, has verbally accepted the position and looks set to sign a three-year contract. He will take over from Roberto Martinez, who joined Wigan earlier this week.

Swans chairman Huw Jenkins told the club`s official website: "It was felt Paulo Sousa is the right man to do this. He is young, bright, enthusiastic and a visionary with extensive knowledge and contacts not only throughout Europe, but world football."

He added: "Taking into account the development of the football club over the last two and a half years and the image we have portrayed as a footballing side, myself and the board of directors felt it was vital to continue along the same lines.

The 38-year-old has returned to Portugal to discuss the move with his family and it is hoped he will be officially unveiled next week.
