Portuguese midfielder Filipe Teixeira has been released by West Brom.

The Barclays Premier League club have decided not to take up the option of offering him a further one-year contract at The Hawthorns.

Teixeira joined the Baggies from Academica de Coimbra for £600,000 in July 2007 but a cruciate ligament injury in March 2008 ruined his season as the club were promoted to the Premier League.

He returned to action eight months later but struggled to gain a first team place and went on loan to Barnsley for the final three months of last term where he made 14 starts for the Yorkshire club.

"Filipe is a good pro and gave everything for Albion," said sporting and technical director Dan Ashworth.

"He had a fantastic first season with the club in the Coca-Cola Championship until he got injured.

"After that it was difficult for him to get a run in the team. We'd like to thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future."

Teixeira made 62 appearances, including 24 as a substitute, and scored five times.
