1. Sheffield Wednesday are one of the oldest clubs in the world, and the fifth oldest in the English league.

2. Their current ground Hillsborough was completed in1899 after moving from their previous home Olive Grove.

3. The Wednesday, as they were known until 1929, were founder members of the Football Alliance in 1889, and its first champions in the inaugural season.

4. The club have won four league titles, three FA Cup and the League Cup – although their League Cup triumph in 1991 was their first trophy since 1935.

5. That League Cup success in1991 was the last time a domestic trophy was won by a team from outside the top flight.

6. Sheffield Wednesday are the only English league club with a day of the week in their name, initially being called The Wednesday Cricket Club.

7. At the start of the 20th century, when a player presented the club with an owl mascot to honour their ground at Owlerton, adjacent to Hillsborough, the team were nicknamed the Owls.

8. Hillsborough has hosted World Cup football (1966), the European Championships in 1996 and 27 FA Cup semi-finals.

9. Former Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman holds the unwanted record of being the fastest sending-off in Premier League history – he was dismissed after just 13 seconds in 2000.

10. The most capped Wednesday player to represent England was goalkeeper Ron Springett, who earned 33 England caps whilst at the club.
