There is a three-way battle for promotion to the Gravy Train known as the Premier League and supporters of Reading, Birmingham and Sheffield United are all expectant.

The easy way of describing the scenario is that if Birmingham win then they will be promoted.

Now comes the tricky bit…Alex McLeish’s men travel to Reading and the Royals know that a victory over their fierce rivals will mean they leapfrog them into second place.

However, if that result happens and Sheffield United win at Crystal Palace then the Blades will jump into second position and return to the Premier League.

The permutations are endless but McLeish is bullish regarding his side’s chances after they wasted a golden opportunity against Preston last weekend with a 2-1 home defeat.

"We spoke to the players on Monday and quickly told them about the disappointment of being a professional sportsman at times and that it was about bouncing back," he told the club's official website.

"Now we've taken it to the very last game and I want the players to go and play with freedom in their minds.

Away

"We've had some terrific away wins this season at the likes of Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol City and these are tough places to go. The Reading game is in the same kind of category and we would expect a fantastic travelling support and I know they will make as much noise as the home fans.

"Quite simply it's about the players playing to their very best level. I don't see any signs of shirkers in that dressing room or people that will crumble so it's definitely game on. It's come to the crunch that victory would take us to the Premier League."
