Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and Cardiff are all reported to be in the race to sign Norwich midfielder Sammy Clingan.

The Sky Blues are thought to be the favourites to capture the 25-year-old winger in a part-exchange deal that could take striker Robbie Simpson to Carrow Road.

Norwich assistant manager Ian Butterworth said: “I think Sammy is an excellent player and could play at a higher level.

“Byran Gunn had a chat with the players at the end of the season and wanted to know their feelings towards Norwich City.

“But we have had a lot of interest in Sammy and one or two other players. We will have to see what is best for Norwich City and take it from there.”

Clingan still has 12 months remaining on his contract at Carrow Road and Butterworth added: “You would like think we would be able to keep players like Sammy Clingan, but if he expresses a desire to play elsewhere what do you do?

“You try to help him on his way and get the best deal we possibly can for the football club.”
