Brighton & Hove Albion are set to step up their bid for Leeds United striker Billy Paynter, according to the Mirror.

The former Swindon forward joined Leeds in the summer of 2010, but injuries and loss of form has prevented him from making an impression.

Leeds are now willing to offload the striker on loan, with Brighton the favourites to complete a deal.

Brighton manager Gus Poyet said: “It seems like Leeds don’t want him.”

Leeds proved they didn't require the services of Paynter against Brighton last month, with Ross McCormack and Andy Keogh netting in a 3-3 draw at the Amex Stadium.
