Ipswich manager Roy Keane has challenged Ed Upson to take advantage of a "big year" after signing a new contract at the club.

The 19-year-old academy product has yet to make a first-team appearance for Town and looked to be on his way out of Portman Road after spending two months on loan at Blue Square Premier outfit Stevenage last season.

However, midfielder Upson did enough at the end of the last campaign to be offered a new one-year deal and Keane told the club's official website: "I took some feedback from the other staff here when thinking about Ed.

"Sometimes you have to be a bit patient with players. I saw him briefly in a reserve-team match and saw enough in the boy to give him a chance. It is now up to him and it will be a big year for him."
