Roberto Di Matteo feels a demanding Championship schedule may be taking its toll on his injury-hit West Brom side after seeing Bristol City come from behind to snatch a 2-1 win on Sunday.
Graham Dorrans deservedly put Albion ahead but, with Di Matteo insisting the next goal would be key, it was City who pounced to level matters shortly after the break through on-loan Wolves man Chris Iwelumo. Lee Johnson added a second for the hosts within minutes and the Baggies rarely looked like getting back into it, falling to defeat in what was their ninth match in the space of four weeks.
Di Matteo said: "We didn't play well, and perhaps the number of fixtures we are playing is catching up with us because we have been using mainly the same personnel in each game."
He added: "We knew at half-time that the next goal in the game was going to be important, so to concede it from a corner was very frustrating. I felt we were in total control of the game up to then, and that their equaliser was the turning point.
"It's disappointing to miss out on the chance to get back into an automatic promotion place, because that was our aim going into the game."Vote for Robert Dorrans or any West Brom player as the PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Month and win the chance to meet them at the Hawthorns: VOTE HERECopyright (c) PA Sport 2009, All Rights Reserved.
