Graham Alexander has waited a long time for Premier League football, and at the age of 37 he must have thought the opportunity had passed him by.

However, 21 years after starting as a trainee at Scunthorpe United, Alexander finally has his chance as Burnley grace the top flight for the first time in 33 years.

The Scotland international has 38 caps to his name but the victory over Sheffield United in the play-off final must surely top anything else in his career, as he can now look forward to a feast of top-flight football.

Old Trafford, The Emirates Stadium and Villa Park are just a few of the stadiums Alexander and his Clarets’ teammates will be visiting next season as they try and emulate Stoke this term and survive in the harsh world of the Premier League.

However, that is still over two months away yet and Alexander can enjoy the celebrations of a town that has always been football crazy. With only 80,000 inhabitants and expected attendances of over 20,000 next season,  it is sure to be a football hotbed.

Givemefootball’s Ian Clarkson spoke exclusively to Alexander as he was preparing to ride round Burnley in an open top bus to celebrate their achievements.

Don’t miss Graham’s exclusive interview with us later here on givemefootball.
