Everton Club Profile

Everton were founder members of the Football League back in 1888 and have been in the top flight of English football since 1954.

Undoubtedly the most famous Everton player is Dixie Dean who was never once booked or sent off during his 433 Everton appearances and scored goals like they were going out of fashion. Dean once bagged an incredible 60 goals in the 1927-28 campaign and scored 383 goals for Everton, which will surely never be beaten. With the likes of Tommy Lawton and Joe Mercer also firmly etched into the Legends section at Goodison Park it is easy to see why supporters are an expectant of success.

More recent stars are the likes of Neville Southall and Andy Gray as well as long-serving centre half Dave Watson. The blue half of Merseyside have a decorated history too, as they have clinched the First Division (Premier League) title on no less that nine occasions.

The Toffees last spell of sustained success came in the eighties when they were crowned champions twice under Howard Kendall in 1985 and 1987 and they also lifted the European Cup Winners Cup in 1985 as well.

The FA Cup has been brought back to Goodison Park on five occasions and they spoiled Elton John's big day in 1984 when the beat Watford 2-0 and the Pinball Wizard Chairman was reduced to tears.

Everton lifted the FA Cup again in 1995 under Joe Royle's tutelage when Paul Rideout's header was enough to see off Manchester United.
