Huddersfield Town Club Profile

Huddersfield enjoyed their most successful period between the wars after being formed in 1908.  Town became the first team to win three successive league titles, something which has only been done three times since.

Terriers were managed by the legendary figure of Herbert Chapman who led them to the first two titles and then left to take over at Arsenal. Cecil Potter then took charge, to guide Huddersfield Town to their third consecutive First Division Championship. After losing the 1920 FA Cup Final to Aston Villa, they won the 1922 final 1-0 against Preston North End. They also reached the final in 1938 before losing to Preston this time.

Huddersfield yo-yo’d between the first and second divisions in the 1950s and 1960s before sliding into the fourth division during the 1970s.

Town returned to Wembley under Neil Warnock’s management for the 1994 Autoglass Trophy Final where they lost on penalties to Swansea City.  But the main change for Huddersfield’s in recent times was a change of ground and a move to a new stadium. 

Huddersfield played their 1,554th and final League game at the Leeds Road ground on 30, April, 1994, beating Blackpool 2-1, before moving into the new Alfred McAlpine Stadium - now called the Galpharm Stadium. Town also share their ground with Rugby League side Huddersfield Giants.
