Leicester's highest ever league position was runners-up in the old first division (Premier League) way back in 1928-29.

The Foxes have successfully lifted the League Cup on three occasions as well as being a losing finalist and been bridesmaids in the FA Cup four times.  They have lost in 1949, 1961, 1963 and 1969 but lifted the League Cup in 1964 and finished fourth in the top flight during a boom time for the club.

Matt Gillies was undoubtedly their most revered manager of the post-war era along with Martin O’Neill and a League Cup final defeat to Chelsea in 1965 was a further sign of their standing in English football.

O'Neill ensured Leicester City players were League Cup winners again in 1997 and 2000 as well as being losing finalists in 1999 but it has been tough since his departure for Celtic despite Micky Adams leading them back into the Premier League in 2003 under a mountain of debt.

The move to the Walkers Stadium from their historical Filbert Street base hasn't coincided with success and they found themselves in the third tier of English football for the first time in their history last season after a succession of managers failed to stop the rot. Milan Mandaric took over as chairman in February 2007 and has since employed seven managers.

Robert Kelly, Nigel Worthington, Martin Allen, Gary Megson, Frank Burrows, Gerry Taggart, Ian Holloway and now Nigel Pearson have all sat in the hot seat and Pearson is charged with guiding them back to former glories.
