Peterborough United Club Profile

Peterborough United were formed in 1934 a meeting held in Peterborough's Angel Hotel in order to provide the city with a replacement for Peterborough and Fletton United, who had folded two years previously.

The Posh first played in the old Midland League which they won on six occasions, including five seasons on the trot from 1956-60.

Peterborough United were elected to the Football League in 1960 and duly won the Division Four title in 1961, with Terry Bly scoring a club and league record 52 goals. They played in Division One between 1992 and 1994 and they finished 10th, their highest ever league finish, in 1992-93 season.

Some notable figures have managed the club in recent years, including Barry Fry, Mark Wright and Keith Alexander. On September 18, 2006, Posh announced what they called 'the biggest signing in the club's history', new chairman Darragh MacAnthony, chairman of MRI Overseas Property.

MacAnthony has proposed a 15,000 all seater stadium to replace the current London Road stadium which has a capacity of 15,314, and believes in manager Darren Ferguson he has the man to help him achieve his dream of reaching the top tier of English football.

Darren Ferguson has certainly got them on the right track, having led Peterborough United to promotion to League One at the end of his first season where they are currently occupying a play-off position - hence the interest in one of the game's brightest young bosses.
