Practices for Goalkeepers 2

Practices for Goalkeepers

Practice

Area 20 metres square, ONE football, 4 outfield players, A, B, C and D.
4 cones marked X1 – X4, distance from X1 to X3, and X2 to X4 the width of the goal (8 yards).

• The players A, B, C and D play the ball from one to another – staying within the area.

• The goalkeeper adjusts his position accordingly - always facing the ball as it moves around the area.

• The passing needs to be sharp, and a goal is scored if they can play a pass to their opposite team-mate through the cones.

• The goalkeeper has to react, continually changing position so as to try and prevent any ‘cross field’ passes going past him.

• The goalkeeper works on quick movement of feet, agility, and trying to get good strong hands behind any attempts on a ‘score’.

COACHES NEED TO ENSURE THAT THE TEMPO REMAINS HIGH, PASSING IS SHARP, AND THE GOALKEEPER IS MADE TO WORK AT REFLEX SAVES.
