Maurice Cohen fears for the future of Nice after being axed as president of the struggling Ligue 1 club.

Cohen, who has been supremo at the Stade du Ray since 2002, has stepped down at the request of the club´s principal shareholders, with the team second from bottom in the league standings.

"I hope the shareholders use necessary means to reinforce the team. Because the interests of the club must be at the forefront of the decisions that are going to be taken," said Cohen. "I will tell you later why this club cannot grow, but not now. There are people who have been there for a long time and I don´t wish to involve myself in controversy now."
