The German Football Association (DFB) have pledged their full support for Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was last week named in relation to a new betting scandal in Germany.

The Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder was one of several names published by Munich´s Tz newspaper alleged to be involved in a betting ring involving Bundesliga games. The Munich State Prosecution investigation confirmed Schweinsteiger was not being investigated, although a case has been opened following allegations made by ARD television programme ´Plusminus´.

"If anybody has any factual information, then they should forward it to the state prosecutor or the DFB," said Dr. Theo Zwanziger, president of the DFB. "The current media comportment is irresponsible, indecent and is damaging to the reputation of players, Bundesliga clubs and the national team."
