Italy were crowned World Cup winners for the fourth time on Sunday as they pipped France 5-3 in a penalty shootout after France skipper Zinedine Zidane´s career had ended with an extra-time sending-off.Fabio Grosso converted the winning kick with substitute David Trezeguet´s missed kick proving fatal for France whose inspirational skipper had been dismissed for a headbutt in the chest of Marco Materazzi minutes earlier.Zidane, the hero of France´s 1998 World Cup win, had after seven minutes put France ahead from the penalty spot after a foul by Materazzi on Florent Malouda although it only just crossed the line after hitting the crossbar. However, Materazzi equalised with a header from an Andrea Pirlo corner and although Luca Toni hit the bar and had a goal disallowed it was France who looked stronger in the extra time period.
