We need to use this as a platform...

Watford assistant manager Dean Austin insists the Hornets can build on their 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup fourth round to move away from the relegation zone in the Championship.

Goals from Jay DeMerit, Jack Cork, Will Hoskins and Grzegorz Rasiak guided Watford into the fifth round, with Palace responding through Clint Hill, Neil Danns and a late Paul Ifill strike.

And Austin said: "We need to use this as a platform. The cup is not a hindrance for us, it's our first win in a while and we can work from here."

He added: "You know with Neil's (Warnock) teams that they will put you under pressure and they did that.

"They were never going to lie down and die because Neil Warnock would not accept that.

"We know there are goals in this team and we scored some excellent goals but the problem all season has been conceding too many at the other end. We conceded territory and the ball was flicked on and they were first to all the bits and pieces."
