Head coach Roberto Di Matteo could not hide his disappointment at watching West Brom bow out of the FA Cup having been on the brink of a quarter-final showdown with midlands neighbours Aston Villa.
A brace from Robert Koren looked set to seal Albion's passage until Reading's Brian Howard dramatically levelled the tie in injury time, with Gylfi Sigurdsson then firing an early winner in the extra 30 minutes.
"I'm destroyed," said Di Matteo. "We were in the driving seat and it wasn't a dangerous situation (Reading's late equaliser). We just didn't defend the second and third goals, we gave them gifts to win the game. We threw it away."
He added: "We just needed to clear the ball. We put a lot of effort in and we worked very hard to win the game, then we come away with nothing."
Meanwhile, the Italian did not want to comment on the mass melee which followed the final whistle, with Royals winger Jobi McAnuff dismissed for his involvement in an incident with Youssouf Mulumbu. He insisted the Football Association can deal with it.
