Grimsby boss Mike Newell hit out at his under-performing players after the 2-1 FA Cup first-round defeat at Morecambe.

Aaron Taylor scored twice for the injury-hit Shrimps before Robbie Stockdale grabbed a late consolation.

Newell said: "There are players who are not performing and haven't been performing for some time, and my job is to do something about that and that's what I will do."

He added: "We are waiting for things to happen and it was a missed opportunity for us because we knew Morecambe were a depleted side.

"We only started playing when we went a goal behind, and although their second goal clearly came after a foul we know we have to do much better."
