Tottenham goalkeeper Ben Alnwick will stay at White Hart Lane rather than move back to Carlisle on loan, the Coca-Cola League One club have confirmed.
Alnwick spent a month at Brunton Park and will now provide competition for Heurelho Gomes after a series of blunders from Spurs' summer signing.
Carlisle boss Greg Abbott said :"The coaching and management staff at Tottenham want to take a closer look at him, and it may open up an opportunity for him with them."
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp sacked goalkeeping coach Hans Leitert in the wake of Gomes' latest disaster against Fulham last weekend, and former Spurs stopper Tony Parks is in the frame to take over.
Redknapp has previously been linked with David Coles, who he worked with at Portsmouth, but the highly-rated coach has signed a new contract at Fratton Park.
"He was always going to stay," said Pompey boss Tony Adams. "He is part of Portsmouth."
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie, after sealing the deal to keep Coles until 2011, added: "He has always been completely happy here and we are delighted to extend his contract.
"He's one of the best goalkeeper coaches in the country so naturally we wanted to keep him at Pompey."
Meanwhile, former Spurs fitness coach Marcos Alvarez believes the language barrier with Juande Ramos led to the Spaniard being replaced by Redknapp.
He told El Pais: "Managing a dressing room in England depends on the quantity of English players that are in. It is even more difficult for a Spaniard to coach a team composed of many Englishmen because of specificities."
