David Beckham's World Cup dream is all but over after suffering a major achilles injury whilst playing for AC Milan.

The former Manchester United star was hoping to become the first Englishman to play in four consecutive World Cups, but the 34-year-old will now miss out on that historic feat if the early reports are to be confirmed.

The Guardian reports that both Fabio Capello and England number two Franco Baldini have already been in contact with the LA Galaxy player, offering condolences for a player who appears to face a battle against what could be a career threatening injury.

"Unfortunately it's quite easy to understand when there is the rupture of the tendon. We will wait for tests but it looks very serious. It's a big blow," said Milan boss Leonardo after the 1-0 victory against Chievo.

GiveMeFootball will bring you more injury news tomorrow (Monday) morning.
