Former Manchester United and England captain Bryan Robson has been named captain of the England Legends by manager Peter Reid.
Robson becomes the sixth member of the 18-man England Legends' squad named to face the Scotland Legends live on ITV4 at St. Mary's Stadium, Southampton for The Alan Ball Memorial Cup.
The international match, which kicks off at 7.45pm on Thursday May 15, sees Manchester United's longest serving captain join four-time Scottish champion Chris Woods; Premiership, FA Cup and League winning Arsenal trio Nigel Winterburn, Ray Parlour and Paul Merson and 1996 PFA Player of the Year Les Ferdinand.
Robson joins an England Legends squad who have played four times previously. The Legends have faced Italy in Florence and Malta, Germany at Reading's Madejski Stadium in 2006 and The Rest of the World at Milton Keynes Stadium in 2007.
Robson said: "Legends' football gets more competitive and professional with each passing year. I watched the games at Reading and Milton Keynes and they were both great games, full of excitement and goals. It was also worth noting that the grounds were packed full of families enjoying a night out together and cheering England on in a competitive match played in exactly the right spirit.
"It's great that this year's first Legends game is being played at St. Mary's, a fantastic stadium in a city with a great football heritage," added Robson who won 90 England caps, 65 as captain, scoring 26 goals.
In terms of facing the Auld Enemy Scotland, Robson was upbeat, saying: "I've played against Scotland in eight internationals and every single one was absolutely electric - I'm sure this game will be the same. Now that Peter Reid has given me the armband, I am going to spend the next three weeks getting ready to lead England out one more time.
"It's a great honour to be asked to captain your country and lead out some great England players against our Scottish counterparts. It promises to be a very competitive match and the manager is already getting the lads geed up for it. He has told us we are not going to lose this at all costs and after seeing his team list, I think we have the firepower to outscore whatever the Scottish lads throw at us."
Manager Peter Reid added: "In Bryan Robson we have one of England's greatest footballing icons - I always wanted him on the team sheet as my captain. With Captain Marvel on the pitch it's going to be like rolling back the years and hopefully the fans will share with me the same pride and memories that I will feel watching him and the lads taking on the Scots.
"I am so up for this game and so are the lads - there will be the usual banter before the game but when we walk out on that pitch we are playing to win it for ourselves, for England and for Bally."
The Alan Ball Memorial Cup kicks off ITV4's summer of football. The England Legends will also play teams from Ireland, on Thursday July 3rd, and Germany on, Thursday August 7th.
