With transfer window madness affecting the men's game it has been far more sensible in the Tesco FA Women's Premier League.
However, Blackburn Rovers boss Adam Lakeland has opted for both youth and experience, with a double swoop.
Lakeland has signed 32 year-old veteran Scottish international Pauline Hammell from Hibernian, plus 17 year-old Emma McDougall from North West League Division 1 South leaders, Fletcher Moss Rangers.
He said: "Pauline will join us initially until the end of the current campaign and then we will re-asses. She is a left-sided midfielder who is well-known in this league from her time at Doncaster Rovers Belles.
"Like Natalie Preston and Karen Burke, she brings with her a vast amount of experience and is a natural left-footer, which is something we've been short of this season, both in general play and from dead-ball situations.
"Emma is a wide player, either right or the left, who is very quick and very strong for her age. She has good quality and good delivery on the ball, an excellent engine and adds to the talented group of youngsters were trying to develop at this club."
Blackburn are currently second in the Premier League and beat Liverpool 4-1 at the weekend to reach the last eight of the FA Cup and they will fancy their chances of reaching the last four after being paired with a home tie against Lincoln City.
Two of the four Sixth Round ties will be all National Premier League affair in the FA Cup after the draw was made at Soho Square on Monday.
