GIVEMEFOOTBALL READERS NAME THEIR ENGLAND STARS OF THE FUTURE

By Dave Smith  February 07, 2003

Our e-mail inbox has been chocker block with suggestions from givemefootball readers who have the following words of wisdom for Sven to consider….

One reason why Newcastle have continued to climb the table is the performances of Jermaine Jenas who, at 19 years old, has been the pick of the Toon stars in recent weeks and should continue to keep the experienced Gary Speed out of the team, even with the Welshman now fully fit. Sir Bobby Robson got an absolute steal at £5million, and he is now backing up his excellent form with goals as well, so if any of the youngsters deserves an England call-up then it's got to be JJ.

Richard A Lawton

What about this for a possible squad? Robinson, Hoult, James, Mills, Barry, Ferdinand, Campbell, Terry, Rufus , Ashley Cole, Bridge, Gerrard, Beckham, Scholes, Murphy, Carrick, Joe Cole, Jenas, Owen, Defoe, Beattie, Smith.

Marc Coates

I absolutely and definitely agree that the youngsters should get a chance against Australia, especially strikers James Beattie, Jermain Defoe and Alan Smith . Heskey should not get a look in or Owen as their form of late is not even Premiership class never mind world class. Beattie should be in on form and he has to get his chance, playing in front of a midfield pairing of Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes, with Becks out wide. I'd go for Nicky Butt too. The rest of the youngsters, if they keep on improving and playing well then its only a matter of time and the competition is good for everyone, pushing the more established players for a spot can only be good.

James Berry

I believe the best prospect in the history of football is Wayne Rooney. He is already better than Michael Owen and Alan Shearer and, at 17, he is a better player than Pele was at the same age.

Rooney fan

There can only be one guaranteed England star of the future...WAYNE ROONEY.

John Griffiths

Rooney must be in the England squad even if Sven has no plans to play him. It will be valuable experience for the best youngster around since possibly Maradona.

Keith Stafford

Let's have a decent keeper who could establish himself and stay in the team for the next few years. Someone like Russell Hoult at West Bromwich Albion. He'd be in the team if he was at a different club.

Dave Baxendale

This is my young England team: Paul Robinson, Paul Konchesky, Jonathan Woodgate, Gareth Barry, Jay MacEveley, Sean Davis, Jermaine Jenas, Jonathan Jackson, Wayne Rooney, Stefan Moore, Kevin Lisbie.

Chris Mitchell

My message for Sven is this: watch out for Darren Ambrose, Darren Bent, Frank Lampard and Carlton Cole.

Michael Byrne

I think Brett Ormerod should be called up because he's the one who keeps making James Beattie look good by running at defences and giving Beattie space.

Jason Kinsella

Gareth Barry and Joe Cole are my two picks as the best young players in the Premier.

Ned Banda

There are no up and coming good players in England. Wayne Rooney is the only one who has a chance of making the grade but he will probably be destroyed by the media or public expectation.
