Wales' skipper Craig Bellamy sunk Denmark for the second time in his career after grabbing the only goal of the game in Brondby, and he declared: "If you look at the 90 minutes we deserved the win."
A decade ago, Bellamy netted the winner against the Danes in Copenhagen and once again the feisty front man was the pride of Wales after settling matters with a strike in the 77th minute. "They put us under pressure in the second half and we rode our luck a bit, but it's a good win," said the
West Ham striker.
Manager John Toshack, who handed debuts to young midfielders
Aaron Ramsey and
Jack Collison and fielded one of Wales' youngest sides ever, said: "It was really pleasing to see how the team worked, I'm delighted with the result.
"We had a few anxious moments but overall we can't fault the players who worked very, very hard for each other. I thought we had four or five really good chances and two terrific saves from Boaz Myhill.
"We've come here without important players, so it's really pleasing to see how the team worked and when we were in a little bit of trouble, we stuck to it. Considering the youth of the side and the inexperience out there, we have to be very encouraged by that result, it underlines what we have been trying to do over the last few years."
Tribute
Toshack also paid tribute to match winner Bellamy, adding: "I asked him to play a little bit deeper but he still got his chances in the first half and scored the winning goal as well.
"Ramsey and Collison also did well particularly in view of the fact there was not a great deal of experience around them. They are among friends - they've all come through together."
