Chelsea and England skipper John Terry believes England would be a ‘tremendous home’ for the 2018 World Cup – and he’s backing the campaign wholeheartedly.
The fantastic stadiums and facilities aside,
Terry believes it’s the nation’s passion for football which makes England credible contenders.
“I’ve seen the amazing passion for football in this country, from England fans following the national team around the world, to supporters packing grounds all over the country and roaring their teams on,” he said.
“Also, all around the world, our Premier League is watched by millions so I think there is an affinity with football in this country.
“Plus, people can see just how many foreign players are playing in this country. And the fact that most of them have signed long contracts and been here for some time, proves how happy they are here, and how safe they feel.”
He added: “From my younger days I also know what the game means to kids who play on parks and fields up and down the country.
"Football has an impact on everyone and I think a World Cup in England would be a fantastic experience for fans and players from all over the globe. I think we’ve got a very good case.”
