The 28-year-old also admitted that the disappointment from failing to qualify for Euro 2008 has helped keep the team grounded after their successful qualification to South Africa 2010.“If we do go on to win it, and we’ve still got an awful lot of improvements to make, but if we do go on to win it, then the whole nation would come to a stand-still for three or four days I’m sure.”Terry was speaking at a Nationwide event, where he met schoolchildren from Surrey before speaking in an exclusive interview that you can watch on GiveMeFootball.“It’s a great feeling (to have qualified), and to do it early in our group and win all our games so far is a good achievement.  But we’ve only qualified, and thinking about that disappointment from before, we have to realise that we still have some improvements to make in the squad, I think as individuals and collectively. The Stamford Bridge stalwart continued by speaking of his role as the captain, and what impact he can have on the side both at training of in a game.“You can set the tempo of a game by winning a header or rallying the lads around you. I’ve always had the philosophy of you train how you play.“Every day in training I give 100 per cent. If people around me are coming into training wanting to give 90 per cent, that’s not good enough for myself or the manager.”

Penalties

The skipper also touched on his penalty heartbreak at Moscow, but confirmed he would answer the call for England if the dreaded penalties were reached in a World Cup clash.“There is probably five players well in front of me, so I’d be out of the first five, but I’d definitely put myself forward. I’ve got no reason not too. “I’m not going to shirk away from any challenges thrown at me in my career. I want to stand up to the plate and if that means taking a penalty I will do.”Powered by: GiveMeFootball.com, the latest football news
