Northampton have signed Arsenal defender Paul Rodgers on a month's loan.

The 19-year-old made his first team debut for the Gunners in their Carling Cup defeat at Burnley earlier this season and can play at right-back or centre-half.

Cobblers manager Stuart Gray said: "As you would expect with any player from Arsenal, Paul is technically a very good player."

He continued: "He is very quick and powerful and he will benefit from being involved in a first team squad at this stage in his career.

"He can play in more than one position and he will add to our squad for the next month. We have got a proud record of developing our own young players and helping to look after the young players we have borrowed from other clubs and I think that is why Arsene Wenger and the staff at Arsenal have been willing to let us borrow Paul.

"Hopefully he will come in and hit the ground running and I am pleased to have been able to bring two players in this week. We are still working hard to strengthen the squad further because I still think we are a bit thin on the ground."
