A horror own goal by Stockport defender Paul Huntington in only the seventh minute set Charlton on the way to a convincing 2-0 victory against their bottom of the table opponents.

Charlton winger Kyel Reid got to the byline on the left and fired in a cross only for Huntingdon to miscue his clearance and, unchallenged, bundle the ball into his own net from close range.

The home side were two ahead three minutes later from a fine Akpo Sodje header. Right-back Frazer Richardson swung in a great cross from the right and the tall striker got between two defenders and guided his header into the far left corner giving Owain Fon Williams no chance in the Stockport goal.

The only surprise in the match was that Charlton failed to add to their emphatic early start. Captain Nicky Bailey was inches away from meeting a Lloyd Sam cross at the back post in what would almost certainly have been a goal from only two yards out.

Sodje had a great chance to get his second in the 20th minute when the ball was headed clear in front of Fon Williams who had come to claim it, but Sodje fired his volley wide from the edge of the box with the whole goal to aim at.

Reid looked dangerous every time he received the ball and curled a left-footed shot just wide from the right-hand corner of Stockport's penalty area after a great passage of passing down the right between the winger, Sam and David Mooney.

Stockport had very few real chances but Jabo Ibehre should have pulled one back for the away side when he robbed Miguel Llera of the ball in his own box and, with just the keeper to beat, shot wide from a tight angle.

Fon Williams just managed to keep the score at 2-0 in the 85th minute when substitute Deon Burton hit a fierce drive from just inside the box only for the goalkeeper to make a fantastic one-handed save and then hold on to the ball, as Charlton finished comfortable winners.
