Cheltenham boss Martin Allen was left to rue a wasted bright early spell as his already-relegated side went down 3-0 to promotion hopefuls Scunthorpe on Tuesday.

The Robins faded in the second half after a promising start in which Michael Townsend nearly snatched them the lead.

"It was a good game of football," said Allen. "We started brightly and their keeper had to produce a couple of good saves."

"There was plenty of entertainment and good football from both sides," he added.

"I took (Yuri) Berchiche off because I did not want things to start getting nasty because the crowd were getting upset.

"It was nothing to do with a tackle that he was booked for."
