Scunthorpe's attempt to have Andy Barcham's dismissal in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield United overturned has been unsuccessful.

The 24-year-old forward was given a straight red card in the first-half following a tackle on Michael Doyle.

He will be suspended for the next three games - Tuesday's clash with Rochdale, Saturday's trip to Walsall and the home match against Yeovil the following weekend.

Scunthorpe general manager David Beeby explained why appeal was unsuccessful.

"The disciplinary committee felt the DVD evidence did not show that the referee made a clear and honest mistake," he told the club's official website.
