Danny Webber went into Saturday's game at Crewe as the top scorer in the Coca Cola Championship. The home side had not yet won at home but thanks to 17-year-old defender Billy Jones shutting out the Watford striker, the Alex won 3-0. After the game Brian Beard spoke EXCLUSIVELY to Billy, a promising young player who is surely destined for the top.

Q:QUITE A CHALLENGE, MARKING THE LEAGUE'S LEADING SCORER - AND COMING OUT ON TOP?

A:Yes, I knew before the game that everyone saw him as the main danger man. It was obviously a challenge for me and I really enjoyed it. I like to man-mark anyway so Dario basically said stay with Webber and I did, and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and the day. To be honest I doubt Danny Webber even knows who I am. I just happened to be playing against him and proving myself against him.

Q:HOW DOES THAT RATE, FOR YOU, IN TERMS OF PERSONAL PERFORMANCES, IN YOUR TIME IN THE TEAM?

A:That was one of my better performances and it was good to finish the game off with a good challenge on Danny because five minutes earlier they got a cross in and he should have scored. That would have been my fault so that clearance cancelled out my mistake.

Q:YOU SEEM TO LOOK VERY COMFORTABLE IN THAT CENTRE HALF SLOT, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE TO DART FORWARD OR INTO THE FULL BACK POSITIONS TO COVER?

A:I do enjoy playing there. It's one of the strongest parts of my game which is why Dario puts me there to do that job.

Q:IT WAS A TREMENDOUS PERFORMANCE WITH NEIL SORVEL THE UNLIKELY GOAL HERO. HAS HE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT HIS TWO FORTUITOUS GOALS?

A:He's a bit embarrassed in there saying it's the worst brace ever. But, at the end of the day, we needed goals and he gave us them and they led to the points which we also needed, so he's happy, deep down.

Q:YOU WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN THAT WATFORD WERE IN THE TOP SIX, AND YOU THE BOTTOM THREE ON SATURDAY?

A:I think why this league is so hard because everyone beats everyone. You just have to look at the teams that came up, Plymouth and QPR, they are doing really well. Every team is capable of beating every other team so it's just down to what you do on the day. I know when we perform we can beat anyone, top or bottom.

Q:IT WAS 3-0 AT HALF TIME AND BASICALLY GAME OVER. DID YOU SEE IT THAT WAY?

A:I think everyone knew how crucial a win was and we were all hungry for that. We wanted the three points and we wanted the clean sheet. It wasn't nice at times but we all battled through, which is what we had to do.

Q:ALL THE DEFENCE MUST BE DELIGHTED WITH THE CLEAN SHEET?

A:Definitely, yes, that's the perfect performance so I'm delighted, as a defender, today.
