Npower League One promotion-hopefuls Sheffield United are today looking to extend the contract of striker James Beattie.
The 33-year-old, currently back for his second spell at Bramall Lane, signed an initial short-term deal back in November, which is now close to it's mid-January conclusion.
Beattie spent much of the first half of the current campaign as a free agent, and Danny Wilson spotted an opportunity in bringing the former Southampton and Everton man to South Yorkshire.
The Blades boss has been keen to extend the contract of the much-loved frontman.
Wilson told the Football League website: "There will be talks (today) between the representatives. I've always been optimistic about it. He seems to have enjoyed himself here."
Ex-England international Beattie has figured six times, all from the bench since re-signing for the club he spent two year's at from 2007 to 2009 after signing for £4 million from Stoke.
The number 10 has had to be content with a role from the bench as the good form of usual strike-pairing Ched Evans and Richard Cresswell has limited his first-eleven opportunities.
Nevertheless, all Blades fans will hope the new deal can be concluded without any hindrances this afternoon.
