Carlisle midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Bridge-Wilkinson, 31, has failed to force his way back into manager Greg Abbott's first-team plans since returning earlier this month from a loan spell at Darlington.

Abbott said: "Marc is an absolutely fantastic lad, but wants to be playing regular football and that's not something that we could guarantee at this moment in time."

He added: "We've sat down and had a chat and have agreed it would be better for him to move on so he can get the pitch time that he needs.

"He really has been a pleasure to work with and leaves us with our very best wishes."

Bridge-Wilkinson joined Carlisle for his second spell in June 2007 and made over 100 appearances over the last three-and-a-half seasons. His previous clubs include Derby, Port Vale, Stockport and Bradford.
