I've got to speak to Alan Irvine...

Preston striker Karl Hawley could extend his loan spell at Northampton after the League One outfit expressed their desire to keep him at Sixfields.

Hawley will play the final game of his current loan spell against Oldham on Saturday but Gray hopes to persuade North End manager Alan Irvine to let him stay for a third month.

Cobblers boss Stuart Gray said: "I've got to speak to Alan Irvine. They've just lost Brett Ormerod with a broken toe so at the back of his mind I am sure he'll be thinking that he's one centre forward short."

He added: "But I will have a conversation with him and it will be a last-minute thing.

"Ideally Karl will stay. We want to keep him as we are thin on the ground with players. But he is Preston's player and it is up to Alan and Karl to decide."
