Northampton have signed Colchester striker Scott Vernon on a month-long loan deal.

The 25-year-old has scored four times for Colchester this season - including a goal in Colchester's 2-1 win over the Cobblers in January.

The Cobblers allowed Leon Constantine to move to Cheltenham on Friday and Vernon will take his place in the squad for Saturday's clash with Stockport.

Manager Stuart Gray said: "Scott is a striker with a decent goalscoring record. He is a hardworking striker and the sort of player who can come in and make an impact.

"He has been playing regularly at this level this season and he has a fair amount of experience despite only being 25 so hopefully he will hit the ground running for us.

"He has a first class attitude and I know he will come here determined to do well for us."
