Northampton coach Ian Sampson says the club is still targeting at least one more new striker despite the recent signing of Steve Guinan.

Sampson is excited by the potential partnership between Guinan and Adebayo Akinfenwa but insists the club will continue to bolster their attacking options.

The Cobblers coach also conceded the club is in the market for a new defender as well as a winger.

"Steve Guinan has got bags of experience at League Two level," he told the club`s official website. "His goalscoring record is good and he is another player that works extremely hard for the team.

"If Steve and Bayo's partnership gels straight away then that obviously benefits everybody but we are still looking to bring in another striker.

"The squad is still looking a bit thin on the ground in terms of numbers at the moment and we certainly need to bring in more defenders, a wide man and at least one more striker."Í
