Colchester welcome David Prutton back into their squad for the visit of Carlisle.

The midfielder was ineligible for Saturday's defeat at Leeds as he was on loan from the Elland Road club.

Prutton, who has since signed a permanent deal with the Us, could start his first game after grabbing a goal on his debut as a substitute against MK Dons.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd looks set to be without defensive duo Christian Ribeiro and Paul Reid once again.

Both players are struggling with groin injuries so John White and Matt Heath are likely to keep their places.

Winger Ashley Vincent (ankle) and defender Ashley Beevers (shoulder) are back in training following their long lay-offs but will not be involved yet.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbott could include new signings Darryl Duffy and Ben Marshall in his squad.

Teenager Marshall, signed on loan from Stoke for a month, and Duffy, who will stay with the Cumbrians until the end of the season, were both transfer deadline day signings.

But Abbott will be without striker Joe Anyinsah, who has scored four goals in his last four matches, as he sustained a groin injury in Saturday's draw with Orient, so Duffy could start up front alongside Gary Madine.

Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Graham Kavanagh and Richard Offiong are all pushing for starting places, but long-term absentees David Raven (hip), Andy Cook (foot) and Gavin Rothery (double hernia) all remain sidelined.
