Carlisle are close to completing the signing of defender Ian Harte.

The 31-year-old left-back joined the Cumbrians on a short-term deal in March, but he was only available to make three appearances after suffering a broken hand in the 1-1 draw with Northampton.

However, the former Leeds and Levante man did enough to impress boss Greg Abbott and is expected to pen a two-year deal at Brunton Park.

Managing director John Dixon told the club`s official website: "If we can secure this signing, it will be a clear indicator that the club has strong ambitions to move onward and upwards through this league.

"In his short time at the club, Ian has demonstrated a very focused, professional and competitive approach which will add to the ethos of our squad."
