Northampton winger Liam Davis has been ruled out for two months after suffering a fractured metatarsal in Tuesday's pre-season defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.
Davis sustained the injury early in the 2-0 loss at Sixfields and an X-ray on Wednesday confirmed the injury.
Manager Stuart Gray said: "It is obviously a blow for us and a blow for Liam."
He added: "Liam was looking sharp in the game on Tuesday before he was injured but now we know the extent of the injury we think it will be around eight weeks before he is available to play for the first team again.
"There is no point moping about it, we have to get on with things and Liam will start his rehabilitation process immediately.
"Liam will be under the care of our medical team and we look forward to having him back in first-team contention as soon as possible. Meanwhile, we will continue our work to try and strengthen the squad."
