Defender Liam Dolman has been released by Northampton.

Dolman, 21, was invited to report back for pre-season training in a bid to earn himself a new deal, but after spending almost a week training with the squad, boss Stuart Gray has decided to not offer him a contract.

Gray said: "We have had a look at Liam and unfortunately we don't think he can work at the levels we require and so we have decided to move on and look at other targets."

He added: "It is a shame but obviously we wish Liam all the best for the future and we hope he can get himself fixed up elsewhere."

Dolman made 54 appearances for the Cobblers since making his debut in October 2005.
