Our supporters were amazing for us last year

Roberto Di Matteo was a happy man after the news that the Milton Keynes Dons will start with a League One clash at home to Hartlepool and then a Carling Cup tie against Swindon.

After losing in the play-offs last year, Di Matteo insists two home games is the perfect way to get the Dons supporters back onside again and surpass last season’s achievements.

He said: "Our supporters were amazing for us last year so it's great we've got a home game first as they will have the chance to get behind us straight away.

"With the Carling Cup game at home we'll have two games at our stadium in the first week so we have a great chance to start well.

Hartlepool gave us two very difficult games last season so it is in no way an easy start and we'll have to be very well prepared.

"Anything can happen on the first day of the season so you have to be ready for it.”
